Lytton, Edward Bulwer. Complete in 2 volumes. Estes and Lauriat, Boston; nd, ca1895. Pompeiian Edition. Illustrated with 50 b/w plates. Decorated two-tone cloth. 216, 234pp. 8vo. Very good.
Lytton’s masterpiece about the destruction of Pompeii. Heavily embellished fine bindings on red and white cloth, decorated with figures and designs. All page edges gilt; rough-cut edges. Profusely rendered with tissue-guarded reproductions of artwork, and illustrated ruins and ancient buildings. Tiny red mark on the front of volume 2; both volumes with minimal occasional wear. Volume 1’s bookmark is frayed apart. Several pages have remained uncut, with one torn on the margin from having been improperly separated. Otherwise a pristine, tight interior.
